Y blog?
If you are reading this article, which I am writing, the chances are you don’t need me to tell you what a blog is. The chances are you are reading it on a blog, linked to it from a blog or you are visiting our blog after you’ve read it (if not linked to it already in another window). The question we get asked most about blogging here at cjb-i is not what is a blog? But how can blogging be used in business? As with any new(ish) technology we must consider its use within the business world, particularly within small business.Let me start with some great examples of business blogs. http://blog.fastcompany.com/ http://fprablog.com/ http://biznettravel.blogs.com/ Just a few of the best business blogs, yet so many business websites don’t have a blog, meaning the site looks dated and static. A blog allows a business site to appear current, to show a business that has vision and a contemporary nature. So let’s consider 5 reasons why your business certainly needs to blog. Your business needs to show current issues – You may be working on a brand new £1m project. A visitor to a non-blog website does not know this, as far as their concerned you could have gone bankrupt 3 weeks ago. An up-to-date blog shows a business with an interest in the here and now, in many cases what customers are looking for. Log your success – Case studies are a great way to show success at your business but how much better is a running commentary of successes. Customers can search archive blog articles and find successes more related to them. Allows all important user interaction – A good idea for blogging is to allow comments by users. These are moderated by you, (for those of you who propaganda your info!!!) but allow your customers to post comments such as ‘could you do a similar job in this industry?’ etc. And we all know the benefits or beginning dialogue with potential customers. Increases your ‘google’ ratings – Search engines look for sites with updated, relevant information which its customers would require. Therefore blogging on your site is likely to encourage visitors interested in what your blogging about. And when you think of the specific needs of your customers this is a great advantage. Someone searching for ‘electrical engineering work in schools’ may find your ‘we carried out some electrical engineering in a school’ blog post. Then the reader will be reading a specific article on what they require!!! Think of the marketing benefits. Increases the information value of your website – Nobody wants to stay on a selling site. Where everywhere you click someone, or something is trying to sell you something. That’s why the most valuable exchange on the Internet is information. We must put ourselves in the shoes (or more correctly the fingers) of our customers and think of the times we have visited websites and just got the ‘their trying to con me into buying something’ feeling. People are interested in information, a blog fulfils this need. These are simply 5 reasons among many others why your business needs to blog. If I haven’t convinced you yet, then visit the business blogs I have researched, load up your website and see the ‘fluid’ difference, very often the only difference is a blog.Did you enjoy this post?
