Why every church should have a blog

By Chris Barton, of web design company www.cjb-i.co.uk

In case you do not know what a blog is, it is so called because of two words ‘web’ ‘log’ shortened to make the word ‘blog’. They are one of the fastest growing methods of getting your news, events and content to people who are interested in what is happening with an organization. Many people are using blogs to keep readers informed of their recent activities.

Useful?
Why is this such an interest to a church. Well blogs are made for fast changing content, this is the kind of news that any church normally has. For example ‘what happened on Sunday’, ‘how much money has been raised’, ‘the next event is…’, in fact any kind of news or events. Blogs can contain text content, images pictures and links to other sites of interest.

Keeping visitors up to date
It is important to show the visitor the latest happenings in the church when they first come across your website. A blog is a great way to do this and it also keeps a record for people to look back and see what has been going on in the past of the church.

Easy to edit
While updating a website in the past has involved fees or been complicated blogs are easy to update because of the way that they are built. This means that any person with slight technical knowledge (e.g. basic word processing) can up date a properly build blog with text, pictures and links.

Roundup
Blogs allow organizations to show website visitors what is happening within the organisations, and can allow churches to keep members and non members informed with the latest news, events and thoughts of the organization. So get blogging and allow everyone one to see and share what your organization is doing.
